  1. If its feet are webbed - it needs water.  If its feet have toes without webs, it's a land turtle.

Either way, it was on its way to or from somewhere when you way-laid it, and it needs to be released right back in the spot you found it.  It knows that area, and where to get its food, and how to keep cool, etc.

So, do the right thing, and just put it back where you got it, and the turtle will be very appreciative and forgive you for the brief detour in its travel plans.

  2. put it back where you found it...it's used to roaming free.  if you want a pet turtle go buy one at the pet store that is used to being captive.

  3. put it right back where you found it.  the turtle was doing just fine before you came along.  green and about the size of a kid's hand tells us nothing.  please do not put the turtle in water if you don't know what kind of turtle you have.  not all turtles live in water.  please release it immediately.  thank you.

  4. Please release it somewhere safe as close to where you got it as possible.

It might be illegal in your location to keep wild-caught animals, and wild-caught turtles generally do not live long unless the keeper really knows what they are doing.

Just for example, it will cost about $150-300 to make a nice habitat for it- and the cheapo small tanks are NOT good places for happy, healthy turtles.
