Question:

Foundation, Acne Coverup, and Mascara

So I have a few questions, and if you could answer any of them, it would be very appreciated.

What are some of the best products to cover up acne?

What's a good brand of foundation? (If it helps, I have rather fair skin, and some acne does unfortuneately tend to pop up sometimes.

My eyelashes are very long, but I don't have very many. What's a good mascara for this?

I don't want to look unnatural, since I'm just going to start wearing makeup for high school. So yeah, haha.

Oh, and one more thing. Should I learn how to use an eyelash curler, and if so, is that something for everyday?

Thanks you so much to anyone who answers. I realize its a lot of questions.

  1. never use liquid foundation as this just exacerbates acne. mineral powders work wonders to cover up and lessen sebum control. i have used  bare minerals and sheercover when it first came out and they did wonders. isadora is not that effective. if you are going to experiment on foundations, make sure they are hypo-allergenic and non-comedogenic. as for mascara, maybelline and loreal seem good. youre young. dont overdo it with the eyelash curler

  2. Mmkay... for acne

L'Oreal TruBlend liquid foundation. Test your shade with the shade tester they have at the store (walmart...?)  if they don't have a shade tester, there's no shame in testing some on the top of your hand to make sure it blends well. when in doubt, go a shade darker.

Physicians formula powder and concealer ... this stuff is more expensive than usual (it'll be around 10 dollars while neutrogena will be around 7 or so.)

use the thick concealer first, then apply foundation with a sponge to really blend.  then apply powder (just in the  needed spots) to help blend the acne areas into the rest of the skin and make it look softer. powder always takes the edge off acne... unless you have flaky skin, then don't use powder, use lotion...

for  mascara, Maybeline Define-A-Lash  its in a green tube and I love it becuase it really lets you adjust how much volume you want. use black or brownish black.  The more volume you want, the more you should wiggle the brush at the lash line and slowly pull up, covering every lash.

    :)

  3. to cover up acne i like to use a nice bronzer but since you have fair skin i would go with a light powder or a foundation. maybeline is good but if ur looking for something cheap use wet-and-wild.

as for mascara for u, use covergirl lash blast mascara in a dark brown color. it is an oarange tube for future reference. =]

and i wouldnt bother with an eyelash curler. i dont use one at all ever i have found the are a waste of time.

    good luck <3

  4. 1. There aren't really any specified make-up that is especially designed to cover up acne, although there are for pimples and redness (so I guess that would sort of serve the same purpose). Benefit Cosmetics is a widely popular brand and they make their make-up especially to solve problems. Any product is good for the face as long as it doesn't have oil in it and it is sensitive. I'd say any strong concealer and foundation.

This is a good foundation powder from Bare Escentuals which is designed for blemishes:

Bare Ecsentuals multi-tasking face for blemishes ("Best of Sephora):

    http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?...

which goes into the second question...

    2. For sure I would use Bare Ecsentuals foundation. Their line is voted "Best of Sephora" by customers and you could also try a primer. There is a really good one by Smashbox that is sensitive, and there is also a green one that minimizes redness.

    3. Most girls have the same problem. DiorShow is a very good mascara, although it is slightly overrated, a good substitute (made by the same company) is Benefit's BadGal Lash. The brush is so big that it catches those eyelashes that normal brushes won't (and when you don't have many, that's especially important). The formulas in both are also very good.

Many people will suggest Define-A-Lash, but my eyelashes are sort of like yours and it doesn't work for me.. I need a lot of mascara to get to the way I would like my eyelashes to be, so we are looking for mascaras that will do that with minimal usage.

Personally, I really like Clinique High Impact mascara. It's one that I've used that I have actually continued to use and kept.

One thing that you can try is the "Lash Stash" offered by Sephora. It's a set of 7 mini-mascaras so you can try them all out (and little ones last a long time too!) and see which one suits you the best. It's about 28$ (it's a 50$ value though) which is 4$ more than a tube of DiorShow.

Another good mascara tip is if you use a mascara and you think that it looks like you've used too much, you can go over it with a brush with makeup remover on it, or what I like to do is use clear mascara (the one I have is made by Great Lash). It sort of conditions your lashes, and it enhances them too so you don't lose the length that you've achieved but you lose some of the "thickness" that you don't want... remember to wipe off the brush after though!

    4. Definitely use an eyelash curler. Eyelash curlers enhance your eyelashes and go the extra mile. So instead of using a ton of mascara, you can use probably half of that amount if you use an eyelash curler. Yes it is something for everyday. I would suggest a japanese one (it's metal), or a heated eyelash curler. Sephora offers many. If you have eyelashes like me, and the typical eyelash curler doesn't get everything, then you should with a smaller one so you can curl the lashes on the end, which are the most important.

A lot of people don't think that eyelash curlers are important, and if by all means, if you don't need one, then you don't have to buy one. But with fake eyelashes, they are always curled and they give the illusion of a really nice lash, so it's a good touch. I would definitely suggest getting a little eyelash curler for the ends though, because a curl there can really enhance the eyelashes.

    ..and you're welcome.

    :)
