Four Canadians receive wild card entries for the 2010 Roger Cup

A total of four wild card entries have been given by the Canadian Tennis to their local players in the Rogers Cup tennis tournament 2010.
In an announcement made a few days ago, it was disclosed that Milos Raonic, Pierre-Ludovic Duclos, Frank Dancevic as well as Peter Polansky will also participate in the Rogers Cup 2010 as wild card entries into the singles draw of the event. Undoubtedly, all of these four contenders are deserving players based on their previous performances as well as future prospects.
Although it is nearly impossible to believe however, some three years ago, Frank Dancevic performed outstandingly in the Rogers Cup competition that was held in Montreal. Being just twenty two years old at that time, Dancevic did pretty well and made his way into the quarterfinal round after knocking down some top seeded players on his way including Juan Martin Del Potro as well as Fernando Verdasco. In his quarterfinal battle, Frank managed to win the first set of the match against the current number one tennis ace, Rafael Nadal however later on lost control of his game and went on to lose the match in the end. As a result of his excellent run in the tournament, Dancevic’s world rankings rose to as high as number sixty five in the world by ATP.
However, since then, Frank has not able to further improve his rankings as well as his game due to some back to back injury problems that badly affected his form on the tour. As a result, his rankings kept on falling down to as low as his current three hundred and sixty eighth in the world.
As far as this year is concerned, Dancevic was out of the tennis scene for the first six months of the season due to his back injury. He made a comeback during the grass court season and faced a couple of tough defeats on consecutive basis. A quarterfinal run in Newport gave some sigh of relief to Frank’s admirers, however later on he got retired during his match in Atlanta Tennis classic after collapsing into the scoreboard on court. As a result, he once again remained out of the scene for a few days and later on appeared at the Challenger’s Competition in Granby where he actually looked pretty good prior to his semi final retirement, once again as a result of his injury. Dancevic therefore needs to get back in form with all his fitness and appear as one of the strongest contenders from Canada in the Roger Cup 2010 tournament at York University.
The twenty two years old Peter Polansky, on the other hand, has some time to polish his sporting talent and improve his world rankings to the top hundred.  Currently ranked as number two hundred in the world, Polansky will be participating in his fifth Rogers Cup tournament this season. He has so far reached the semi final round on one occasion this year at the Challenger Championship in Carson. Therefore, Polansky will definitely be hoping to play well in this year’s Roger Cup competition.
The three hundred and twenty eighth ranked tennis player, Pierre-Ludovic Duclos has never exceeded the quarterfinal rounds of the Rogers Cup tennis tournament. However, the twenty four years old Pierre did manage to knock down Feliciano Lopez in round number one of the qualifiers back about three years ago which proves that he has the talent to be listed with few of the top ranked tennis players in the world. This will be his very first main draw participation at the Canadian Masters competition and therefore it will be exciting to watch him playing while handling the home crowd pressure at the same time on the hard court at York University.
The fourth Rogers Cup wildcard entrant Milos Raonic, is currently ranked number two hundred and nine in the world which is not a bad ranking considering his tender age of nineteen. It is going to be his very first direct entry to the main draw at the championship. He has played pretty well over the recent past with some victories in Granby as he made his way into the final where he was knocked down by Tobias Kamke.
The fundamental towards the success of all these local wild card entrants will be a blend of fitness, mental strength and probably more than anything, their luck that will support them in their run towards the later stages of the tournament. Although, there is no doubt about the fact that they will be facing players of higher rankings as well as experience however no one can deny the fact that they have the talent to upset the big ones at any stage of the tournament without any question at all.
