Four-Hour Layover in Denver ?

Any cool places (coffee houses/bars/venues) near, or around the airport area where I can hang out and kill some time during those 4 hours?

(BTW - is Denver cab fare expensive? In D.C. cabs determine fares by the zone system...is it the same in Denver?)

  1. I agree that staying in the airport is the best bet.  There are lockers throughout the terminals if you want to drop off some of your bigger stuff.  Then if you do choose to leave the terminal you can get through security a bit more easily.  The airport has one of the largest public works of art collections in the country with several rotating exhibits of art and history.  There are some very good restaurants as well and fabulous people watching.  Go to www.flydenver.com and you can see all the available shops, restaurants, and things to see in DIA.  It really is a lovely airport.

  2. With the tougher restrictions on security you might be better off staying at the airport.  It can take almost that long to go through the airport security lines.  Also if you have any carry on baggage do you  plan on dragging that with you?

Bring a good book and try to relax.  More and more airports have some pretty good food places in the confines so you can find some healthy food.  Try to keep away from the salty, fatty, stuff since you are planning another leg of your trip.  Stay hydrated.  And walk for a bit.  Now you have plenty to do and 4 hours will pass fairly fast.

  3. Your wise to stay in the airport. There is plenty to do without having to take a cab anywhere.

  4. DIA has lots of restaurants, but is also has some interesting areas that most folks never see. I took a tour of the airport before it opened and they had some wonderful murals and a little museum about Elrey Jeppesen, who designed the first flight maps. Here are lists of all the shops and restaurants, but take some time to wander around the airport too, there's lots to see.
