Four Major title holders to feature in BMW PGA Championship – European Tour News
The BMW PGA Championship will be starting from May 26. This is going to be a star-studded field where all the four current major championship holders will tee off. This will be a European Tour event and carries a lucrative amount of prize-money. This
will be a four-day event played at Wentworth Golf Club in Surrey, England.
It will be for the first time that all four current Majors' winners will be participating in a tournament. All the four champions will battle it out against their opponents on the field from next month. World Number One Martin Kaymer, Irishman Graeme
McDowell, South African pair of Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel will be among the participating players.
Schwartzel completed the spot of the fourth European Tour member as he won the Masters at Augusta National last week. He is now the fourth European Tour member to have won a major championship at a stretch.
Previously, it all started from Kaymer winning the PGA Championship, Oosthuizen victorious at The Open Championship and then McDowell winning the US Open last year.
This year has already been a great one for the European Tour players who still occupies the top three spots in world golf rankings.
The 26-year-old Schwartzel played superb golf on the final day. He came from behind on the leader-board and started his final day trailing by four shots over the leader. His final round of six-under par, 66 was enough for him to win his first green
jacket at Masters. The final round also included four spectacular birdies in the closing four holes as he sealed the win. He then joined the list of Gary Player and Trevor Immelman, players who have already won the green jacket.
Schwartzel said, “Winning at Augusta was a dream come true and, without question, the highlight of my career, and I am really looking forward to coming to Wentworth next month as the Masters champion.”
The Masters champion is now hoping to give same performance in the upcoming BMW Championship.
As the South African gears up, his compatriot Oosthuizen is also confident of showing up a great performance in the tournament. He won The Open last year by a good margin of seven shots in which he dominated throughout the tournament.
It will be a little tough for Kaymer to get things going on his side. Already, his performance in the Masters was not up to the mark as he missed the cutline score. Now, he has another opportunity to prove himself on the field as he will be among the
participants. Everyone knows about his ability to play as he is confident of adding another victory to his name.
McDowell was also was among the players to miss the cut is hoping to improve his performance. He will be all prepared for the challenge as he loves playing competitive golf.
