Four New York Yankees’ players make it to American League All Star team – MLB Update
Four of the New York Yankees’ players have made it to this year’s American League All Star team. Credit must be given to the Yankees’ Manager Joe Girardi, who has used his pitching and hitting resources absolutely brilliantly this season.
Second Baseman Robinson Cano was the top selection to start second base in the upcoming Midsummer Classic. Cano is having an excellent time on the plate this season. He is averaging .310 with 20 home-runs and 46 RBI’s as it will not be wrong to say that
he played a key role in many of the Yankees’ victories in first half of the season.
It will be Cano’s fourth All Star appearance and third straight as a starter. Although he made a slow start to the season, he is improved his game considerably with each passing game. He homered only four times in his first 42 appearances before getting
hot in June.
In his last 36 games, he has hit an impressive 16 home-runs and he has 22 RBI’s and 12 home-runs in his last 25 games. It will be interesting to see if he can help the AL All Stars topple their counterparts from the National League.
Curtis Granderson, who was selected as centre-fielder, has also posted some great numbers this season. The left hander hit 23 home-runs with 46 RBI’s before the All Star Break and he will be making his second straight All Star appearance in Kansas City on
Tuesday, July 10. Since July 2011, Granderson has hit 64 home-runs, which is only second best to Jose Bautista’s 69.
"Unfortunately, last year I didn't get a chance to go," Jeter said, "but I am looking forward to this year. It's an honor. All players want to be part of it. Anyone who says it gets old is lying to you."
"I have been feeling pretty good," Sabathia said. "No pain."
Derek Jeter and C.C. Sabathia are the other two players who will be playing this year All Star Game. Jeter is averaging .299 with seven home-runs and 25 RBI’s. Ace Sabathia, who was injured a few days ago, was 9-3 with 3.45 ERA before the All Star Break
and it is unclear if he is fit enough to make himself available.
