Four St. Louis Cardinals players to represent team in All-Star Game – MLB News
As the All-Star Game is nearing, the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday, July 1, were in high spirits with four of their players making it to the next week’s eagerly awaited encounter. Set to be played on Tuesday, July 10 at Kauffman Stadium, Rafael Furcal, Yadier Molina, Carlos Beltran and Lance Lynn will represent the Cardinals at the All-Star Game.
Apart from Lynn who is making his first appearance in baseball’s most anticipated competition, three other players of the Cardinals have their names enlisted for the All-Star Game multiple times. For Lynn, it goes without saying, it is a rare opportunity to manifest his ability and talent.
Much as it was known, if not reliably predicted, that the likes of Molina, Beltran and Furcal would be part of the team, Lynn’s selection was not surprising. However, when he was queried if he was surprised, the player responded in the negative.
"I am and I'm not," he answered. "I had a good run at the beginning of the year. The last three [starts] have not been so great. They thought I did well enough to vote me in -- the players did. It's just a great honor that those guys thought I should be."
What went to the favour of Lynn was voting as well. Be that as it may, whatever the reason at the end, it is a great moment for the young player not only to represent his team but also establish evidence of his capability as a potentially accomplished young player.
On the other hand, Furcal was buoyed as he was making another appearance in the All-Star Game. This will be special not only for him, his team but also for his family.
"When you retire, you're going to see how many [All-Star appearances] you have and you think about starting All-Star Games," Furcal said. "It's special for you. It's special for your kids when they start asking you what that means. I think that means a lot for me and all my family."
Once the game kicks of next week, these four players of the Cardinals will be among few attracting the attention of every baseball fan.
