Question:

Four Year Old With Fever And Zoo?

Today, Cami woke up not feeling very well. Later, she felt warm, so I took her temperature. It was 102. She had some children's tylenol and a cold drink. Now her temperature is 100.8. Tomorrow, we have to go to the zoo for an adoption picnic. It is for families of adopted children. We adopted 4, so we are invited, and my kids will be up on stage. Cami is supposed to be there. Tomorrow, if her fever is 99 or below, would it be all right if she goes? She is seeming to feel better, but still warm, She will wear loose/cool clothing, a hat, and has a mister fan to bring along. Also she will have a stroller with umbrella and we can go inside to the shops a little.

  1. Usually, you go by the child's action as a general rule of thumb, not just the height of the fever.  If she seems like she is feeling fine, with or without a temp, I would take her for sure.  My kids often spike fevers for no explainable reason but by the next day they are perfectly fine.  Make sure she is hydrated.  You can always leave if she starts feeling too crummy.

  2. I agree with royalbird.  I would also be concerned about whether or not she has anything that could make any other children sick.  If she doesn't seem to have anything contagious and seems to feel good, go for it and have fun!  And congrats on adopting 4---awesome!

  3. I work in the ER and one of the best thing you can do for a fever is alternate children's tylenol and children's motrin which are safe to take together. Don't keep her heavily clothed. Good luck and i hope you little one gets to feelin better soon !!

  4. I would say if she is feeling okay and not to cranky then it will be okay. I think you should let her dictate on weather you should go. Take some tylenol just to be on the safe side. I think you have put some things in place that will make it go smooth in case she does get to feeling sick again. Good luck and have fun. You did a great thing adopting 4 little ones. God bless.
