  1. My son was 4 half when he started Kindergarden. His b-day is Nov.20 and the cut off is Dec.1, that is in California. So that makes him the youngest in his class. I kinda wished that I didn't let him started that soon but he wanted to go to school with his friends and I let him go but he is doing great in school. He will be 6 half in the second grade but that is fine with us. If your child ready to go to school at 4 let him but if he's not I would hold him back one more year.

  2. I went to Kindergarten at 4 and a half. I was perfectly fine. I am in Honors (advanced) LA and History, Av. math and science, and I am a very good student :)

  3. So what? I went to Kindergarten EXACTLY at 4 1/2.

  4. Bright kids need to start early or they will be bored to tears. My son started kindergarten at four (this year) and is doing very well socially and academically. He acts more like a 'big kid' now, but I have no regrets. The only problem is he is still a year or two ahead of the class work, and the school just wants him to wait.

Some kids will wait, if they have to, hide their abilities, and become quiet. Other kids 'act out', or refuse to answer easy questions or do 'baby' work.

If I were you, I would ask for a copy of the curriculum for kindergarten and grade one at the school you are considering. This way you will know clearly how advanced your child is, before embarking on the applications for early kindergarten.

  5. It depends what time of year they were born. Legally (in Australia), you dont have to send your child to school until the year they turn 6. Two of my kids started school the year they turned 5 (so they were 4 and half when started). One is in year 6 and does quite well in reading, the other is in year 4 and does well in maths. It all depends on the maturity of the child. As long as they at least recognise their name when written, know most of their colours, seem to be able to follow instructions and you dnt think they will be too tired, it should be ok. When another one of my children (I have 5) started the year she turned 6, she still needed an afternoon nap. It really depends on the child.

  6. i would have started a year earlier but i was cut because of my age so i moved down a grade, which im so happy i did because the grade above me in my school i didnt really like and i got lucky,

  7. Most states have cut off dates early enough that very few children start Kindergarten at four.  It's been proven time and time again that the older kids in a class typically do better.  That would be especially true if the child is a boy since they don't mature as quickly as girls.

  8. i sent my son preschool at 3 and a half its a two year program before they start school most people take them out after firs year to start school at 4 which is far to young in my opinion kids fare better being older starting school especially from an emotional point of view,

  9. I started kindergarten before I was 5 and my parents have always said that was one of the biggest mistakes they ever made. If they had to do it over again they would have waited another year. My youngest will turn 5 about a week before schools starts and if we could afford another year of preschool we would keep him out for another year.

  10. my brother did fine he kept up with every thing

  11. My daughter skipped into kindergarden from preschool in March of that year, but if she went full year, she would have been 4 1/2 at start. She was a little behind the other students at the end of the year, most of the children were reading and writing, while she was still concepting phonics, she graduated with her class and caught right up in 1st grade.

Her birthday is Sept. 29 and the town's cutoff is Sept. 30.

She hasn't repeated any grades nor ever been behind anyone else. She's currently in 8th grade, and is getting straight As, easily.

I say, check out your town's cutoff date, and if your child abides by it, and you think he/she is ready go for it. If he/she does not fall inthe cutoff, but you think they are ready, contact your child's school and ask to get him/her screened to she if they are ready.

  12. I have knew people who did, and held their child back, and they repeated Kindergarten

I live in a stat, that if you child is born after school starts(end of Auguest) to Dec 31, you can choice

Most parents of boys hold them back

    Girls it's about 50%

    It's up to your child

Some are ready some are not

This is the reason, a lot of parents think holding their child back will give the child and edge in school down the line

There is no right answer to the question

  13. Is it all day of half....I'd never do all day at that age,

Boy or girl?  Girls mature faster and a girl being smaller is cute..a boy is a target?

    What size is the child?
