  1. I will change my habits real fast when that day comes. I dread it and do not want it to happen.

  2. I would still have to drive, have to get to work, etc

but I would cut back on other driving

  3. Ive been riding my bike and walking to work for the past 2 years...and I love it!

  4. honestly, no. different people have different situations. some may be okay with taking public transport, but sometimes there's no way (i.e. new neighborhood, bus does not run through or nightshift, no buses at that time) so even if it goes up to 4bux per gallon people will still use their cars.

  5. you really have no option if you want a ride i just wouldn't get such big car that takes a lot of gas if you do then you really wouldn't want to pay ill probably take a lot of paychecks

  6. I really don't have a choice. I have to get to work and do not have public transportation available. In my household, we do not own an SUV and we've already reduced most of our non-work driving. So I'll just have to bite the bullet.

When it's time to replace a car, however, fuel efficiency will take a higher priority than it has in the past. Safety, though, will still be the #1 priority.

  7. Almost everyone in the US is dependent on the car as their primary form of transport (unless you live in the centre of a few select cities), so for most people its a case of 'biting the bullet' and accepting the inevitable.

I live in Houston where public transport is a joke.  I also work in the oil & gas business and think that $4 per gallon is a realistic possibility in a years time or less (depends how much further the $ falls against the rest of the worlds major currencies - thank Mr Bush for that).

So now might be a wise time to ditch the gas guzzling SUV / Truck (15mpg) while there's still a market for them and score yourself a Toyota Yaris (40mpg) or something similar.  I use a motorcycle all year round, as my primary form of transport (45-50mpg), and spent most of my life in the UK, where it's over $8 per gallon, so can't resist a smile when I hear people moan about the gas prices over here.

  8. Sure will, and so will you.

  9. Funny people asked the same thing when gas was $2.00 a gallon. People will still pay for it and others will still drive their gas guzzlers. I don't think you will see much change until the gas is gone.

  10. Well, I remember back in the mid 70s you had a day to buy gas and a quota sometimes of 10 Gallons.  Is time to dump the worthless SUVs and get some more fuel efficient.  If you want to save money.

If we are going to the same mind set of the early 80s most cars will start to cut back on power to make up for fuel mileage.  I pray hard not to go back to that pesky 55 MPH limit that we were forced to drive in order to save gas (the lie was a safety related issue).

  11. Most of us don't have a choice.  But at that price, I'll look a little harder at mass transit.
