Four out of six amateurs selected for the Maybank Malaysian Open
The European’s Tour Maybank Malaysian Open, scheduled from April 12 to 15, is gaining attention for having top amateur golf players in the field.
The list was released on March 15, by the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA). Initially, four out of six amateurs were selected to play at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Chan Tuck Soon, Low Khai Jei, Muhammad Afif Mohd Razif and Muhammad Arie Irawan Ahmad Fauzi are the proud amateurs, who will play with and against the hundred professionals.
According to the MGA president, Admiral (R) Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor, the criteria for the selection were tough.
All the amateurs were closely screened and their performance in the last tournaments was also closely monitored.
Total six amateur slots were available and four are now occupied. Two more players will also be selected in the near future and their appearance will make the tournament more appealing.
"We're pleased to announce the first four amateurs who will be participating in the prestigious Maybank Malaysian Open. It is a dream for any young Malaysian golfer to play in the Open and the MGA is delighted to extend this rewarding experience to our nation's
elite amateurs," said Mohd Anwar.
Tuck Soon had also played the 2011 MayBank Malaysian Open but missed the cut. He faced a heightened degree of competition, but he loved it.
"It was a priceless experience to play among some of the world's best at the Maybank Malaysian Open last year and I'm looking forward to another crack at it," he said.
"I had a great start but nerves got the better of me on the second day. I know I can do better and I will be better prepared this year," said Tuck Soon.
Similarly, Khai Jei, Mohd Razif and Ahmad Fauzi are also happy about the given opportunity. They are looking forward to hitting some impressive scores in Asia.
All the four selected desire to learn some major golfing techniques from the world’s most viewed players, at the Maybank Malaysian Open.
The field is not yet finalised for the $2,500,000 purse event. However, four amateurs are happy and confident to play at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
