Four out of ten qualify for final round of CSV Continental Cup - Beach Volleyball
The CSV Continental Beach Volleyball Cup had a great run from November 24-27 in Santiago, Chile, where 10 South-American duos fought for supremacy on centre court. The tournament covered its length on Sunday and announced four lucky teams, who qualified for the final round of CSV Continental Beach Volleyball title. In the next run, one successful team of the final round will earn a ticket to 2012 London Olympics.
The second phase of CSV Continental Beach Volleyball Cup in Chile ran for four days and 40 matches were played, in order to test the skills of participating teams. At the end of campaign, Venezuela, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay emerged as the top four teams and qualified for the final stage of the London 2012 Olympics Games qualifying event.
Venezuela
The Venezuelan duos showed great thirst for victory in the competition and bagged 14 wins. The dropped only two matches in the entire tournament and finished off with 30 points, which enabled them to get hold of the top slot in team-rankings. Venezuela suffered the first loss on Day-3 when Brazil’s Harley/ Evandro defeated Henriquez/ Villafañe in straight sets. Brazilians staged a stellar performance and finished the match in straight sets. Likewise, Venezuela dropped one match on the final-day of the CSV Continental Cup. Igor Hernandez and Farid Mussa of Venezuela went against home pairing of Marco Grimalt and Esteban Grimalt on day-4. The latter profited from the home advantage and posted 2-0 win over the visiting team. Nevertheless, Venezuela still managed to make it to the top with 30 points.
Brazil
Brazil played with two teams in the competition and displayed good action on the centre court. They bagged 25 points and settled for second place in competition. Brazil was actually tied with Chile in terms of points. Chilean side also scored 25 points. However, Brazil was given the second spot on account of better average of sets in the tournament. On the final day of the competition, Brazil clinched success in three matches and lost one match. Final-day points played an important role in helping Brazil with second position in the tournament.
Chile
Chile provided the backdrop for this amazing competition, which spanned over four days. The home duos were equipped with stupendous emotional support of local fans and they had edge of playing under familiar conditions. Chilean fans must have hoped to see their team going for top slot but they could only finish third with 25 points.
Uruguay
Uruguay won the last place for final stage of the CSV Continental Cup. They ended the campaign by scoring 24 points. Uruguayan Nicolas Guillermo and Zanota Williman demonstrated a sensational play in the final-day matches. They breezed past tough rival Brazil in the last match of Day-4.
