ability from set pieces. The French midfielder fell out of favour with the French national team in the FIFA 2010 World Cup due to his lacklustre performances at the international level but there is no doubt about his ability to perform at the highest level.
Gourcuff rose to prominence at Bordeaux where he led the French underdogs to a Ligue 1 triumph in the 2008-2009 season. However his move to Lyon has stifled his development as a player. Nonetheless, Harry Redknapp would be wise
to seek a move for Gourcuff as he would need a ball playing midfielder in order to replace the outbound Luka Modric. Gourcuff’s versatility means that he can play as an attacking midfielder or as a central one as well.
Given that Tottenham play a 4-4-1-1 formation, the Frenchman can play just behind the striker or in central midfield alongside the likes of Wilson Palacios or even Sandro as well as Huddlestone. One thing that Tottenham might want
to look out for is Gourcuff’s price tag which will be high given that he signed a five year deal with Lyon last summer just before the FIFA 2010 World Cup.
