Four untouchable NBA records
Kevin Love recorded the first 30-30 night in the NBA for 28 years yet he’s probably not going to win the MVP or even be discussed in the race because he plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves, who aren’t exactly the NBA’s best team.
But what he accomplished was special, becoming the first person since the great Moses Malone and the first person to grab 30 rebounds since Charles Barkley had 33 in 1996. Not even the likes of Shaquille O’Neal, Dwight Howard, Tim Duncan or Kevin Garnett can say they’ve got a 30 rebound night on the list of career accomplishments.
Could Love go for Wilt Chamberlain’s record of 55? It’s not impossible but very unlikely given the amount of other great rebounders who have come before Love. In fact, that 55 is probably one of the untouchable records in the NBA.
Here are some other untouchable records.
Most points in a game: 100
Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 when the Philadelphia Warriors took on the New York Knicks on March 2 1962. It’s a record that is never going to be beaten - not even Michael Jordan could get close, whilst Kobe Bryant tried and failed getting to 82.
Most rebounds in a game: 55
Ok, we mentioned this before but 55 rebounds is a crazy amount of rebounds to have in one game. Wilt Chamberlin did it for the Philadelphia Warriors against the Boston Celtics on November 24, 1960 and it will be a while until someone even gets 40 rebounds let alone 55. Some teams are just happy to grab 40 rebounds in one game.
Most 50 points games: 45
Scoring 50 points in the NBA is an extremely tough thing to do, to do it 45 times sounds impossible but that’s what Wilt managed to do throughout his career and it’s another record he holds which looks like he won’t have beaten. If any could have, it would have been Michael Jordan.
Highest rebounds per game average: 27.2
Again we go back to Wilt but when someone holds 72 statistical records he will keep coming up. When someone grabs 27 rebounds it’s a big deal let alone averaging 27. Even averaging 27 points is an achievement so you can mark this record down as an untouchable.
