Question:

Four week old kitten passing out?

A little while ago my mom attempted to open our bathroom door and one of our four week old kitten started crying. My mom said she could open the door, nor could she pull it shut for a second.

When the door did open, the kitten cries had gotten louder and more desperate. We found the kitten on the floor, arching her back and crying. My mom picked her up and after a few seconds, her breathing stopped and she went limp.

Devastated, we held her and tried to figure out what could have caused her death. This probably went on for three to five minutes, and then miraculously, the kitten twitched, lifted her head and stared around, dazed, but otherwise completely unharmed.

Has this ever happened to anyone before? I've tried searching for ways this can happen, but I can't seem to find any situatutions where a healthy kitten suddenly stops breathing.

  1. THE ONLY THING I CAN TEL YOU IS GO STRAIGHT TO THE VET!!!

    HELP THE POOR KITTTY!!!

  2. Geeze,  I am so sorry about your little friend  :(

You definitely need to take her to the vet.  There are sooo many things that could be the cause of this.  She could be experiencing anything from fading kitten syndrome to hypoglycemia to a heart condition or even a serious infestation of worms.  Or??

Unfortunately, it sounds serious and without proper medical attention - and quick - she most likely will not thrive properly if at all.

I wish you both well, prayers be with you.

  3. the little kitten might have been scared of the door because it was big and moving or something might be wrong so take the kitten to the vet just in case

  4. There is a sleeper hold used in wrestling that is applied pressure at the base of the skull.  If the kitty got his head caught in the door(couldn't pull the door shut for a second) it could have received the "sleeper hold" and went to sleep and woke up.  Take him to the vet to be sure

  5. Is this kitten still with it's mother, because four weeks is much too young to be on it's own.  Often with a kitten that young there can be something genetically wrong with it, or if the mother was not properly vaccinated it could have a disease.  It could also have been injured.  You really need to take it to a vet, but sometimes kittens that young just don't make it and there's nothing anyone can do about it, they sometimes call it "failing kitten syndrome".  Good luck, and I hope it gets better.

  6. Yes a young kid stepped on one of my kittens (on purpose)

So this kitten might have been crushed by the door and it passed out.

it may have some nerve damage that won't show up until later,

Don't let it be treated roughly by kids etc. from now on.

    good luck
