Hey, Im taking art, physics, maths and english language at a-level. I think that thats a solid spread of subjects and are all worthy of a career in. But Ive decided to change art before college starts, because the work load would mean no social life, and my other lessons will suffer, you may say it wont, but trust me, im good at art, but Im a perfectonist and unbeliavable slow : ). So, can people give me suggestions for a fourth alevel to replace art, which universites regard as a very good alevel to have. Not a crappy one lol, where you do it for fun, one which will be useful in future life. I wanted to go down the artictecture/design path but decided not to as I think I have greater potential in maths/physics and english. so can anyone give me a fourth alevel which will complement the 3 others, but also is regarded as a great A-Level to have, cheeeeeeers!

  1. Entry level of these classes are usually easy and very interesting

    Geology

Astronomy  (make sure there is little math unless you're awesome)

    Atmospheric Sciences

    Oeanic Studies?

I don't know what A level means but if you are already in a 4 year university class selection is miniscule of importance compared to GPA.  If you're in a community college keep you're GPA and sceince clases are always respected compared to psychology.  Remember you have the pass/fail option if a class will hurt your GPA.

Best advice I can give is, the most important part of the quarter is the first week.  Look into more than 4 classes, have plans for 6 and go to all of them the first day.  Read the syllabus and see what grade you will get in this class.  Pick your class based on the teacher and drop classes you won't succeed in.

    Cheers

  2. Geography

  3. further maths and chemistry are supposed to be the "hardest"

chemistry is easy, as well as further maths is you are naturally good at maths ;) and are seen as high A levels

  4. Economics or Business Studies.

  5. chemistry or biology would be the most useful cos theyre prerequisites for a number of degree courses - proof positive of their value

    lol not geography!

if you like maths you might also want to consider further maths - that might make your workload easier than if you did chem or bio, depending on how good at maths you are

  6. If you think your greatest potential lies in the maths/physics and english paths, look for another science that you find interesting and which you want to study at university. Chemistry, Biology, Geology.

Or you could pick a subject that compliments the others: Engineering, Electronics, Applied Science, Pure Mathematics, Environmental Science, Research Projects, Science, Statistics, Critical Thinking.

Or go for something completely unrelated, but could help later on in life: Business Studies, Communication Studies, Communication and Culture, Economics and Business Studies, Environmental Management.

We don't have A Levels in the US. We have advanced placement courses, but it's really not the same (didn't have them when I was in high school, so I didn't even get to do that). If you know which uni you want to attend and what major you would like to pursue, look at the curriculum and see which A-Levels would be most beneficial. My first thought was Geography, but that's not really that practical, unless what is studied is vastly different from the geography I took in HS and college. By the way, we pretty much use the terms college and university interchangeably in the US, so when you get a response that doesn't seem to make sense, it could be that you got an answer from someone who doesn't know what A-Levels are and thinks college and university mean the same thing all over the world.

You may find some of my suggestions a little odd. I am thinking about what will be needed in the world in the next 10-20 years. There will be a lot of work for people in the math/science area and a lot of that work will be in alternative energy research, environmental sciences, and medicine - thanks to the baby boomers (born 1946 - 1964). A lot of health care workers will be needed. I'm very good at math and science, but could NEVER deal with any of the health care professions. Though dealing with dead things doesn't bother me, just the live ones.

    Good luck.
