Foxford Hi There says hello to victory at Hove
It was another great day at the races at the Brighton and Hove Greyhound Stadium in Brighton. The dogs produced some impressive results during 12 races on the 515m card, much to the delight of the fans in attendance.
The action got off to a superb start at 11:11 with an exciting A6 race. Coming into this race, the odds makers selected Quickasasnail as the 5-2 favourite to win. However, he put up a disappointing result in this race with his fourth-place finish. Foxford Hi There (3-1) was victorious in this race, finishing in 30.46. He held an early pace out of trap two, and soon led to finish in the top spot.
In second place by a shoulder was Sub Rosa (3-1), who moved slowly away from the pack, but rebounded to finish in 30.46, matching the winner’s time. Broken Tears (5-1) was not crying with his third-place finish, crowding second to finish in 30.60, which put him 1¾ lengths behind second place. Broken Tears was substituting in trap three for Grays Bonnie, who did not participate in the race.
Pre-race favourite Quickasasnail lived up to his name by finishing in fourth. Completing the race in 30.64, he was only a ½ lengths behind Broken Tears. Had he not baulked wide, the victory might have been his.
The bottom two positions went to Ashington Ellie (8-1, fifth place) and Apple Seed (5-1, sixth place). Ashington Ellie was 4½ lengths behind fourth place with a time of 31.00, while Apple Seed finished the race in 31.14, 1¾ lengths behind Ashington Ellie.
Centaur Lou Lou (7-1) trotted to a big win in the 11:28 A6 race. She moved quickly away, led to second, and came again to finish the race in 30.37. Only a ½ length behind her was Rising Cloda, the 5-4 favourite. He ran in to claim second place in 30.41.
Finishing in third was Unlikely Kitty (4-1), whose 30.55 finish put him behind Rising Cloda by 1¾ lengths. A fourth-place finish was the thorn in English Rose’s (3-1) side. She was only a shoulder’s length behind third place, and matched Unlikely Kitty’s time of 30.55.
Placing fifth by a neck was Swift Miroush (4-1), who ran to a 30.58 finish. Last place was claimed by Katie Two (7-1), who finished in 30.68, putting her out of fifth place by 1¼ lengths.
The A11 race at 11:42 was short one dog (Sunnybank Koya) did not race. No substitute was offered in trap five. Skibbs Star (9-4) landed the win in this race by finishing in 31.09. Behind him by a ½ length was Runway Three (8-1), who crowded second and ran on to finish in 31.13 for second place.
The number three spot went to Swift Titus (9-4), who was 1¼ lengths behind Runway Three with a 31.23 finish. Fast Betty (4-1) was not fast enough, as she finished the race in 31.37 to take fourth place. This put her 1¾ lengths out of third place. Oxford Scholar, the 2-1 favourite coming into this race, put up a disappointing fifth-place finish in 31.61, 3 lengths behind fifth place.
Brighton and Hove Greyhound Stadium will host another exciting race night on Saturday, September 4. The 12-race card gets under way with an A11 race at 19:30.
