Frac Daddy can take McPeek back to the Kentucky Derby next year
The 2-year-old colt, Frac Daddy, has got trainer Kenny McPeek dreaming of the Triple Crown, and with three races, McPeek is thinking of getting back on the Triple Crown trail.
Magic City Thoroughbred Partners’s Frac Daddy, failed to defeat maidens at first asking when he was asked to go 1 mile over Belmont Park’s dirt course on 4 October, but the son of 2007 winner of the Grade 1 Florida Derby, Scat Daddy, Frac Daddy missed the
mark narrowly to let Indy’s Illusion win in 1 minute and 38.90 seconds.
However, Frac Daddy bounced back and won his next maiden special weight race going even further. This time at two-turns in only his second start, Frac Daddy looked at home at Churchill Downs on 3 November, as he went on to defeat Mo Jo in second and Mr.
Palmer in third with the winning time of 1 minute and 45.65 seconds.
Though, the effort that really convinced McPeek that his juvenile colt can do good over the Triple Crown trail was the second place finish to winner, Uncaptured, in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club at Churchill Downs on 24 November, 2012.
"Having been around a few good horses in my time, I think this horse could be any kind," said the 50-year-old McPeek. "If he improves the way I expect him to, we've got a big chance to be in the middle of a lot of nice races."
Considering his strong performance in the Kentucky Jockey Club, Frac Daddy is expected to be very active at Gulfstream Park during 2013.
"I'd like to get one race into him before the Fountain of Youth (gr. II on Feb. 23) and then come back for the Florida Derby (March 30)," McPeek said.
McPeek will be hoping that Frac Daddy will turn out good in the Gulfstream Park meet, and hopefully the colt will earn enough qualifying points to earn a stall in the starting gate of the 2013 Grade 1 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands.
"He was a big, strong horse with a lot of substance to him," he said.
