If a measured distance of 10 inches on a map represents an actual distance of 5 miles, what is the fractional scale of the map? I am not good with this so I would like some help.

  1. 1 inch = 0.5 miles or 2640 feet

The map has a 2/1 ratio of inches to miles.

  2. (10 in./5 mi.)(1 mi/5,280 ft.)(1 ft/12 in.) = 1/31,680
