http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fraizer-Campbell-c13904, the Sunderland striker, has admitted he was hoping to receive a call-up for the Three Lions for the upcoming Olympics.
There has been some negative feelings towards a combined side competing in the London 2012 Olympics by the other nations, but the players have been relatively more positive. Especially the players who did not make it to the European Championships squad will
be looking to participate in the Olympics.
The 24-year-old forward is amongst those players, he will be hoping manager Stuart Pearce chooses him in his squad, having previously managed him in the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 under-21 international team. Campbell revealed he was looking forward to representing his country.
Campbell said in an interview:
“If I get picked to play I would be honoured, because it'll be the first time for years that a GB mens' football team has been entered into the Olympics. It's something that will go down in history and a unique occasion so I would be delighted to be
a part of that.
I don't know what to expect and that's the most exciting thing. It's fresh and new.”
While Campbell was at Hull City on a loan spell he received his first call up for the England under-21 side, making his debut appearance as a substitute against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Czech-Republic-c2882.
Campbell then went on to score against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 in the UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship in 2009, after which he was considered for promotion to the senior squad. It was in 2012 that the striker received his first call up to the senior team under
Stuart Pearce for a friendly against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753.
This time around he will be looking forward to being selected from amongst many hopefuls for a place in the team that will represent England in the Olympics.
He revealed:
“A lot of names have been mentioned in connection with the squad, and if they all come down it will be a great team to watch and hopefully play in.
If I'm not involved I will focus instead on just getting myself ready for coming back in pre-season.”
