http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fraizer-Campbell-c13904, the Sunderland striker, has revealed he refuses to rush himself to first team action after being sidelined for over 17 months.
The 24-year-old has been sidelined since August of 2010 after he sustained a second knee injury to an already injured knee. The cruciate ligament damage ensured Campbell remained out of action for the entire season, even missing the start of the 2011-2012
season.
He is now close to making a comeback, having featured for the reserve team last week and participating in various practice matches. However, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 under-21 international revealed he was in no rush to make a return from fear of aggravating the
injury.
According to Campbell it would take a few more weeks before he felt he would available for first team action for the Black Cats. Even though Campbell admitted that period was difficult and frustrating he was certain it would be worth the waiting.
Campbell said while speaking to reporters:
“It's always good to get a goal, but the most important thing is making sure the knee is all right.
I have been training for a while and the big thing is that these things take time. As much as I want to be back playing, I know everyone's got to be talking to each other to make sure the knee is sound.
I'm almost having to hold myself back. This is one of the worst parts - those final few weeks just seem to drag, but I know I have to take it steady.”
Having been in the same position last April, Campbell is now not willing to risk picking up the same injury once again. He revealed he was willing to be careful after being sidelined for almost two years in an important part in his career.
He revealed:
“The training-ground matches have helped me, I haven't felt sluggish or anything.”
The English forward confirmed he felt positively about his return but at the same time wanted to be careful in case he damaged something. He revealed he wanted to be at his best once he returned to first team action under manager Martin O’Neill.
