  1. Framboise (from the French word for raspberry) or Frambozenbier (Dutch) is a Belgian lambic beer that is fermented using raspberries. It is one of many modern fruitbeer types that have been inspired by the more traditional kriek beer, made using sour cherries.

Framboise is usually served in a small glass that resembles a champagne glass, only shorter. Most framboise beers are quite sweet, though the Cantillon brewery produces a tart version called Rosé de Gambrinus that is based on the traditional kriek style. The Liefmans brewery uses Oud bruin beer instead of lambic to make its high quality framboise beer, resulting in a very different taste. Recently, Framboise has become popular outside of Belgium, and can now be found in pubs and supermarkets all over the world.

I agree with some of the other posts that the raspberry is the best but there are other flavors.  Kriek is good too (cherry flavor). I believe it is slightly higher alcohol content however:  about 8-10% (twice the amount of most beer).

  2.   17F. Fruit Lambic

Aroma: The fruit which has been added to the beer should be the dominant aroma. A low to moderately sour/acidic character blends with aromas described as barnyard, earthy, goaty, hay, horsey, and horse blanket (and thus should be recognizable as a lambic). The fruit aroma commonly blends with the other aromas. An enteric, smoky, cigar-like, or cheesy aroma is unfavorable. No hop aroma. No diacetyl.

  3. Delicious!!!

not very strong, about as much strong as a beer.  it has a light fruity flavor- i think raspberry is best. It would be better to compare it to a light, sparkling juice.

If you ever make your girlfriend/wife upset- buy her a bottle of raspberry Lambic. She wont be mad for long.

  4. I think the one I had was called Fruji.

Drinking it right off from the bottle I found it bitter and didn't like it.

As soon as I started eating my meal it smoothed out and got very tasty.

  5. It tastes a little like framboises (raspberries) and is about 4-5°

the only brand I know of is Timmermans, they also have "peche" (peaches) and wild fruits.

  6. Belgian lambics are perhaps my favorite drink of all. They are a type of beer, but the fruit is added later in the process and therefore tends to be sweeter with less bitterness. They have the same alcohol percentage as good beer also, but because of their richer flavors, I tend to drink mine more like a wine - in smaller doses over the course of the evening.

Framboise lambic tastes like a smooth and rich raspberry champagne, but finishes like a beer with hints of malt or hops flavors. Other fruit lambics tend to taste like the fruits they're made with and some are more tart than others (cassis, or black currant, is sharper, as is kreik - tart cherry), but all have that lovely malty finish. I highly recommend Lindeman's lambics (available in Framboise, Peche, Cassis, Kreik, and a new apple flavor that I have not tried yet). You might have to do a little searching, but I know they are available at Beverages & More in 2 sizes and all flavors, Trader Joe's (mine carries Framboise and Peche) in large size, and sometimes they can be found at CostPlus World Market locations.

For other possible retail locations, contact merchantduvin.com, the distributer.

  7. The brand name is Lindemans, (not Timmermans) and it's got a very strong raspberry taste - the beer is actually purple!

You can get this at Whole Foods, or any grocery with a great foreign beer selection, or a specialty beer distributor.  Some bars might have it, but only ones with a VERY wide selection, like the Yard House chain.

It usually comes in a large bottle, costs about $10 or $11 at the grocery - probably costs more if you order it at a bar, so you may want to share it with a few people.  Preferably women, it's a very popular "girl" beer.

In some bars, you can order a "Black and Red" - that's Lindemans Framboise Lambic, with Brooklyn Chocolate Stout poured on top - it's a chocolate and raspberry beer!  Tastes like a liquid dark raspberry chocolate candy, but it's beer!  I've also seen it on the West Coast, mixed with Young's Chocolate Stout, there it's called a "YoungBerry".
