Fran Halsall wins silver title in Women’s 100m butterfly: British Gas ASA National Championships
Commonwealth Games champion, Fran Halsall of Great Britain took home the silver title in the Women’s 100m butterfly event with a steady time of 57.44 seconds. The most fabulous aspect about the meet was that Halsall only lost the match against another British
queen, Jemma Lowe, with a fringe margin of 0.01 seconds.
Lowe clinched the gold medal in the respective race after she touched the finishing wall and ended her swim with a sterling time of 57.43 seconds. The effort also improved her to the fourth place in the international rankings of swimming.
Alicia Coutts is on the first place in the following meet with a sterling time of 57.25 seconds, while Sarah Sjostrom retains the second spot with a time of 57.32 seconds and Liu Zige is placed third in a time of 57.39 seconds. Meanwhile, Halsall moved into
the 5th place of the world rankings after this race. Placed 6th in the international rankings is Dana Vollmer with a time of 57.50 seconds.
After the respective meet, Lowe said, “It’s been a really good day for me all round. My Mum and Dad just turned up to see me swim after rushing from my sister’s X Factor audition where she got through to the next round. That was a big PB and a Welsh record.”
Jessica Sylvester snared the bronze title in the Women’s 100m butterfly final after she touched the wall and ended her swim in a time of 1 minute and 00.61 seconds. Lowe added, “The last time I showed this kind of form was three years ago. I’ve been trying
to step it up ever since I return to the UK and tonight’s swim was just fantastic.”
At the moment, Free Halsall has been paying close attention to her swimming styles in order to give her best try at the upcoming World Championships in Shanghai, this July. Halsall looks determined to improve her 2009 records and all is left to see whether
she lives up to Britain’s swimming expectations in Shanghai.
