Fran Kurniawan and Shendy Puspa Irawati claim Mixed Doubles title at Syed Modi International 2012
Indonesia’s talented player Fran Kurniawan and Shendy Puspa Irawati showed a staggering performance in the arena and claimed Mixed Doubles title at Syed Modi International India GPG 2012 on Sunday, December 23, in India.
In the final match, Kurniawan and Irawati, who were second seeds in the Mixed Doubles draw of the tournament, played to their maximum potential and toppled Thailand’s Nipitphon Puangpuapech and Savitree Amitrapai in a decent manner.
Indonesian players did not lose their focus at any stage in the final battle against their un-seeded Thai challengers and remained successful in winning the fight in straight games with a reasonable margin in just 34 minutes.
On the contrary, the lower ranked Nipitphon and Savitree could not capitalise their incredible skills in the final battle while playing against their second seeded Indonesian challenger and bowed down with a decent total on the board.
Kurniawan and Irawati played with terrific control and wonderful power in their shots and they easily managed to occupy the driving seat from starting points of the opening set.
The hard-to-learn variations in Kurniawan and Irawati’s shots helped them to push their Thai challengers on back foot without any considerable trouble.
Indonesian players showed no respect to their lower ranked opponents in the opening half and remained successful in building a huge lead until the break.
After the one-minute interval, Kurniawan and Irawati did not lose their control over the pace of rallies and stayed in complete command all the way.
The higher ranked Indonesians did not slow down the pace of rallies at any stage and comfortably secured the first set with a lopsided 21-12 margin on the board.
On the other hand, the un-seeded Nipitphon and Savitree increased their speed in the second game and played better badminton that helped them to stay close to their Indonesian opponents until the one-minute interval.
After the break, both couples continued putting up strong show and entertained the crowd with the incredible fast game.
Both sides reached at 22-22 when Kurniawan and Irawati dominated the pace and finished off the battle with a tight margin of 24-22.
The lofty Indonesian players stamped their superiority on court and wrapped up victory in the title match with a convincing 21-12 and 24-22 score on the board.
