France/ Bastille Day?

If you have ever been to France on Bastille day or lived there and experienced it multiple times can you please tell me your favorite part of the festival, strange things you may have seen, what you remember most about it, etc.

  1. In my view it's not so radically different from July 4th in the States- lots of parades and fireworks, and an opportunity to share some good food amongst friends and family. If ever you're in Paris on that day, I recommend going to Montmartre (the hill overlooking the rest of the city, and where the Basilique du Sacré-Cœur is located. It's in the 18th arrondissement in the northern part of the city, and you can get a pretty good view of the fireworks taking place. It's a bit crowded, but not nearly as crowded as the area surrounding the Eiffel Tower.
