Currently at the bottom of the Spanish La Liga table, Real Sociedad are going through a turbulent time. 20-year-old Antoine Griezmann has been with the club for a long time and after making his debut in 2009, the youngster has been an integral part of the
Basque Country club.
However, this season is yet to see the best of Griezmann whose performances have certainly seen a slump.
While talking to L’Equipe, the youngster admitted that he has not made a great start to the campaign. However, the Frenchman also added that his physical fitness is the main reason behind this.
The youngster represented France Under-21 in the Under-21 World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Colombia-c2873 and Griezmann says that playing in the World Cup and returning to the club so quickly really hindered his performances.
“When I returned from the World Cup, after a long time I felt exhausted. I seemed lost. This is the first time I have felt like this, I had lost confidence,” the youngster said while talking to L’Equipe.
A downward spiral in form has also resulted in Sociedad’s lowly standing in the league and the youngster admitted that he needs to regain his confidence once again.
Griezmann was hotly linked with a move to Atletico Madrid in the now-ended summer transfer window. However, a deal was not finalised and the youngster is still recovering from the after affects of a failed move.
“The clubs are knocking on the door. I am someone who always wants more and then I got lost. I wanted to cut corners but I regret it,” said the 20-year-old honestly about his ambitions.
During these tough times, the youngster’s French Under-21 coach Erick Mombaerts has been at his side. The Frenchman has seen the youngster’s development in recent years and believes that Griezmann will move on from the blue phase of his career.
The youngster is also attracting considerable interest from Ligue 1 side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 so a move to the Stade Velodrome in the winter transffer window could be on the cards for the youngster.
With France making a great start to the Under-21 Euro 2013 Championships, Mombaerts is hopeful that the youngster would play an important role in guiding France to the Championships that will be hosted by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Israel-c2925.
