Question:

France Visa?

Hi, I am on my way to the US on a H4 (spouse/dependent) visa in the month of February. I plan to stop over in France for a vacation with my husband. I'll get my H4 visa stamped in the first week of Feb. And I would only have 5 working days of the next week to get my France visa. Are 5 days enough to go through the whole process of submitting my documents and getting back my passport with the France visa stamped?

  1. it should be

  2. You didn't say where you were from. It's easier to get a visa from France if you are from certain countries. Also, in the US, will you be close to a French consulate? Your request will be handled faster if you go there in person. If you do it through the mail I would be very skeptical that it can be done in five working days. The French bureaucracy is not fast and they ALWAYS will ask for extra documents not on the list, or refuse the documents that you send them for whatever reason. The best is to go to the consulate to submit your application and all documents (bring photocopies). In your bag or briefcase, keep other documents that are not requested but that the fonctionnaire may ask for. That way when they ask "Where is your (such and such paper)?" you can just pull it out and amaze them. Examples of papers: airplane tickets, name and address of where you'll be staying in France, proof of your housing in the US (e.g. copy of your apartment lease or electricity bill, plus attestation by your husband if it's in his name), US visa, your passport, etc. Good luck!
