France beaten in first match of the world cup?

first game and first upset goes to Argentina. superb performance by argentina but awful by the french. Can they still make the quter finals or can the Irish put them out? what are your predictions? and thoughts on todays match?

I hope the Argies thrash the paddies big style,and watching the Pumas give the French a hiding was pure joy too!  

England have a good team but apparently they're getting too old.

Sadly I fear ir might be two of those boring southern hemisphere teams who'll be in the final.  

No matter, its all jolly good fun watching those guys knock the **** out of each other!!

My thoughts exactly - will the Irish remove France from their pursuit to rugby supremacy...after todays performance it could easily happen, there were too many errors from the french and the team seemed to lack any sort of game plan.

Is it the players?  or is it Mr Bernard Laporte, the French coach who since June has become the "Secretary of State for Sports"? Perhaps his mind is slightly occupied elsewhere, which certainly reflected on his teams performance today.  I guess time will tell.

No I think that it's going to be bad for the Irish. France are now going to have to win the Irish game and are going to be under way more pressure then the Irish. The crucial game for me was always going to be Ireland v Argentina, and whoever won that would go through with France, but now the argentinians look very strong, so it's going to be two hard games ahead for Ireland

I can't believe they conceded a penalty early on in the second half when they were mere inches away from a certain try.

A really poor performance by the hosts but all credit to the Argentinians.

I would love to see Ireland and France to go through but Argentina have proved how tough they are.

Wonderful Rugby from The Pumas, who took the game to France and deserved the victory.

I imagine that the France v Ireland game will be a bloodbath.

great on argentina that was a shock. im not for any one of those teams, but the ref has done one c**p job for this first match i cant believe some desicions he took. not to take anything away from argentina but a few times there pleyers were coming in mauls from the side and a few other stuff that a southern hemisphere ref would punish it is the rules anyway. i hope that this ref ups hes game for the remaining matches. im scared you gona see two totaly different styles of ref and its going to be frustating to watch some games being refd one way and onother game another. anyway the french were to confident, and when they confident they tend to play less than they can. when watching the match its like there plan A failed and they didnt have any back up plan! players were coming in and others out they left there best kicker on the bench till 5-10 minutes of the end! chabal only came in 20 minutes to the end they thought they could handle argetina easely and yep they got a big shock and didnt have any back up plan to switch to so good for them for loosing. argentina played not a very attractive game but thats what they had to do to win and they did it well. the ref really spoiled my match thou.

even if they do make the quarter finals, odds are that they will have to play in Cardiff... ironic isnt it, also that match would almost certainly be against the All Blacks who outclass the French at just about every position

France didnt get beaten in their first match: Argentina won their first match, which is a huge difference.
