France claims World amateur team golf championship 2010
The men's world amateur team golf championship 2010 ended on the 31st of October and awarded France the top spot on the leader board while the teams following its lead were United States and Denmark. The results placed Canada at a tie for the
eighth place at Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The winning team reached the apex of the tournament after attaining a four shot lead over the other teams at the shortened tournament. The first round of the men's World amateur team golf championship was contracted to 54 holes due to bad weather conditions,
it was originally a 4 round program thus shortened to three due to weather delays on Friday.
The last round of the event held on Sunday witnessed France winning the tournament after superb play from its top 3 members. The French luminaries were Johann Lopez-Lazaro, Alexander Levy and Romain Wattel whose play projected the team to the top after a
score of 423. The team achieved a 4 stroke victory over its other competitors and hence carded a wire to wire 7 under.
France collected an even par 144 after the final round of the event where Alexander Levy and Johann Lopez-Lazaro, collected scores of 72. Their fellow associate Romain Wattel played a rather dire game than the previously mentioned but carded a 74.
The runner up at the event was team Denmark that attained a silver medal with one shot deficit at the second round. The team entered the last round with a one stroke trail and fell further down the board to land on 147 with a 3 over. Denmark was led by Joachim
Hansen, who carded a 73 at the last round to place the team at a final score of 427 with a three under.
The third place holder had failed the 14th time to achieve the top position at the men's World amateur team golf championship. United States achieved the third place with a 428 and was led by the golfer Peter Uihlein. The American carded a 70
and placed the team at a 2 over overall with a 1 under 143 only at Sunday’s play. The team ended the tournament at a tie with Ireland carding the lowest score of the day.
The gold medallist team carded a 423 with a 7 under and won the championship for the first time. The frontrunner has though, two wins in its record from the year 2002 and 1992 where it finished once as a runner up and then as a third place holder.
The fourth place was achieved by team New Zealand whereas the fifth and sixth place was awarded to Scotland and Ireland.
