France consulate in Los Angeles, Schengen Visa?

Question

I am a resident in the US, flying to France on MAy 19, I need to get a Schengen Visa asap, I have all paperwork ready to go, now my worries are if its late to apply?? Also does anyone know if I can just walk in the French embassy w/o any prior appointments?

I WILL REALLY APPRECIATE ALL YOUR HELP!
