France defeats Hong Kong to enter into top-16 in the Sudirman Cup 2011 – Badminton News
France has beaten Hong Kong to enter into the semi-final of the Sudirman Cup 2011, at Qingdao, China, on Thursday, May 26. The French shuttlers emerged as the winners against the Hong Kong team by a difference of 3-2.
The French Mixed Doubles couple of Baptiste Careme and Audrey Fontaine earned the opening point by beating Wai Hong Wong and Hoi Wah Chau of Hong Kong, in straight-sets of 29 minutes.
In the opening set, the French couple played positively and spared no opportunity for their opponents to dominate the match. They won the opening set by 21-17 margin.
The Hong Kong Couple tried to dominate the game in the second set but failed to do so as the French duo occupied the driving set in the concluding phase. Baptiste and Audrey managed to win the second game by a tight margin of 21-19.
In the Men’s Singles match, Brice Leverdez brushed aside Yan Kit Chan in straight-sets, proving that he is one of the top shuttlers who are skilled in all aspects of the game. He finished the match by playing top class badminton in straight games, with a 21-17 and 21-13 score on the board.
In the Men’s Doubles battle, Baptiste Careme and Sylvain Grosjean of France proved too strong for Hong Kong’s Tsz Kit Chan and Lok Kei Lo in a two-set fight of 31 minutes.
The French pair played a flawless game in front of the packed indoor arena at Qingdao. In the opening set, Baptiste and Sylvain demonstrated tremendous temperament and won the set by a 21-12 margin.
In the second game, both pairs put up a good show in the whole set. The score was 21-21, where the Hong Kong shuttlers made a mistake which helped the French duo in winning the second set by a 23-21 difference.
Hong Kong found a little consolation as the Women’s Singles shuttler, Pui Yin Yip, worked well and defeated Perrine Le Buhanic of France in straight-sets. She won the match by a margin of 21-11 and 21-13.
In the Women’s Doubles category, Ying Suet Tse and Lok Yan Poon of Hong Kong defeated Laura Choinet and Audrey Fontaine in a straight-set match with a 21-12 and 21-17 score on the board.
