France defeats Slovenia by 3-2 in second round qualifier match of the European campaign
The second round qualifier matches of the European campaign are currently taking place in Czech Republic.
The city of Zdar nad Sazavou is playing host to the championship. The six teams that made a show of their skills in the opening matches of the tournament were France, Spain, Czech Republic as well as Slovenia, Estonia and Romania.
The French team competed in the tournament with their Slovenians counter parts. The match between the two sides thrilled the audience as it remained challenging through it its entire length. However, it was the French team with the honour of being the 2011
Youth European silver medallists which was able to defeat the Slovenians by 3-2. The scoreboard showed the following final set scores at the end of the match: 25-23, 19-25, 25-20, 17-25 and 15-10.
The head coach of the French squad, Jean-Manuel Leprovost, expressed his jubilation upon winning the match in the following manner, “We came here to sweep all matches and even though we scored a win, I still hope we will deliver a more solid performance
in the next days.”
While the captain of the winning squad, Trévor Clevenot, said, “We only had a couple of practices before this match and we still have to adjust to the sports hall. Our performance today was not brilliant but still good enough to claim the win.”
On the other hand, the head coach of the Slovenian side, Samo Miklavc, shared his views by making the following comments, “France played a little different than we expected; I am satisfied with our performance even though I have some regrets since we could
have won.”
The match between the French and the Slovenians took a total of two hours to reach its close. The first set of the game saw the Slovenians take the lead at 8-3 but they eventually let it go due to errors, letting the French bag the opening frame at 25-23.
The Slovenians responded in the second set by making the match reach a tie but the French took the third set going up once again. The Slovenians won the fourth set by a comfortable margin but the fifth frame went to the French.
