  1. They were a group of Frenchmen who decided to fight for n**i Germany rather than be punished as prisoners of war. They were formed to fight against the Soviet Union after Germany invaded.

  2. The LVF was created by Jacques Doriot from people who were members of WWI veterans unions + people from the forbidden fascist small parties existing before 1939 -

It was of course acknowledge by the collaborationnist Vichy government and gave germans a base to create French SS Frankreich then Legion Charlemagne, most of them were killed under SS uniform in Russia,  -

In 1944, as french resistance action increased, the LVF enabled also the creation of the Milice, a good bunch of belated cretins, who took an active part to the fight with the Gendarmerie against french partisans - The Milice gun shot many men and women - They arrested a part of my family who were involved in the Michelin resistance in Clermont-Ferrand and slaughtered 1/2 of them, the 2 nd 1/2 deported to Ravensbrück and Buchenwald - two she-cousins were liberated by Russians in  1945

  3. What strange results do you get? anyhow, first a general thing. the n***s did propaganda in the countries they occupied. mostly propaganda against bolshevism (communism) and the sovietunion in hope many people would volunteer in their fight against communisum along with n**i germany. sure one hope of the germans was to comepensate the loss of german soldiers in the eastern front, but although the most non-germans fought on the eastern front, some fought at the end on the western front. (but the french did not fight in stalingrad and no waffen-ss divison fought in stalingrad). some people who joined were member of right-wing organisation, parties, fascist groups, some were forced against their will to fight with n**i germany (like soldiers in german pow). the reasons why foreign people joined the fight with n**i germany were different, like the different people from the different countires. many of them were n**i occupied, some weren`t. also the numbers of volunteers from different goes from dozens to thousands. Many of them died in the battles or were later executed/murdered as traitors to their people and nation, http://www.thirdreichruins.com/33ss15.jp... About 60% of the waffen-ss soldiers were non-german foreigners at the end of ww2.

French are known for their resistance against nazigerman occupationm in ww2, but a small number of french men fought in the LVF which was later canceld and changed into the 31 divison of the Waffen-SS "Charlemange".

    A short descripton:

The Legion of French Volunteers Against Bolshevism founded on July 8, 1941, a week after n**i Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union in France by the german army in motivation by Jacques Doriot and Marcel Déat and Marcel Bucard. It volunteered to fight against the USSR on the Eastern Front. The Legion of French Volunteers (LVF) was officially known to the Germans as Infantry Regiment 638. The Legion of French Volunteers was mainly made up of right-wing Frenchmen and French prisoners of war who preferred fighting sovietunin instead of doing forced labor in germany.

In October 1941, a French infantry regiment, 2,452 men strong, crossed the frontier of the Soviet Union as part of the foreign contingent of the German invasion force. During the spring of 1942, the Legion of French Volunteers was reorganized with only the 1st and 3rd battalions and spent the rest of its tour of duty on the Eastern Front fighting partisans in the rear areas. In June 1943, the two independent battalions were again united in a single regiment and continued fighting partisans in the Ukraine. French volunteers wore German uniforms. But, like other foreign volunteers, the French were allowed to wear their national colors on the right sleeve of their German uniform and on the Stahlhelm. Both German and French decorations were worn. On 1 September 1944, the Legion of French Volunteers was officially disbanded. It merged with the Milice to create the SS Charlemagne Division.

The only knights cross winners of the french ss-soldiers and all french soldiers in ww2 erarned all their knights crosses in the battle of berlin. Total awarded to the french in numbers: 3. You should know, that over 7000 soldiers were awareded with the knights cross in ww2, with a number of over 18 million soldiers, para-military soldiers and everything fighting on the axis side.

    i hope this helped.
