France experience stands Samenerve in good stead in Mary King Beginners´ Chase at Exeter
Success has not come to Samenerve so far, but his recent good efforts make him the one to look out for. The Nigel Twiston-Davies trained went close twice over fences in France, and that experience would definitely help him display a fine show in Mary King
Beginners´ Chase, to be hosted by Exeter on Thursday, October 11th.
The 5-year-old faced a few awful defeats at the start of this season. After collecting plenty of embarrassment, he finally got his act together in June, when missing the gold only by a head’s distance in Auteuil’s Prix Du Nouveau Cercle De L'Union (Prix
De Brissac) (Chase) (Conditions) (5yo) (Turf).
It was a very good performance. He remained prominent throughout, and joined the leader in the middle stages. With the help of an excellent effort, he gained disputed lead until edged ahead two furlongs before the wire. In the hands of Vincent Roisnard,
he was in a great position to go for the first rank, but unfortunately lost advantage near the finishing line.
On his previous trip at Auteuil, Samenerve lost strength after taking a wonderful start. The Prix Du Journal Geny Courses saw him reaching the front row in the early stages.
He quickly went second behind the clear leader, and continued to run well. However, a huge mistake a few furlongs before the final stop cut down his chances dramatically, and he was well beaten. As a result, he tailed off in the final moments.
The son of Protektor has run many good races in defeat so far, and we expect him to finally get off the mark under the care of new trainer. He has recently joined Nigel Twiston-Davies’ yard, and should show improvement.
Including him, there are eight horses in the line-up for the 3-mile meeting. The officials at Exeter will start the proceedings at 15:50 GMT. A cash prize of £3,899 is reserved for the winner of this class 4 clash.
According to our calculations, Bennys Mist is the biggest threat to Samenerve. The 6-year-old is on a hat-trick after a couple of thrilling efforts. An improving hurdler, Venetia Williams’ trainee has his ground for chasing debut.
