Arrived this summer at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130, France Under-19 captain Gueïda Fofana is currently confined to the bench. However, the youngster is happy to learn more under the tutelage of Remi Garde and play an important role in the future for Les Gones.
European Champions and captain of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 Under-19 side that won the tournament in 2010, 20-year-old Gueida Fofana transferred from Le Havre to Olympique Lyonnais in the summer transfer window.
The youngster was one of the few signings made by the-then recently appointed Lyon coach Remi Garde. Like all young players at the club, Fofana has been touted for future success. However, when the likes of Clement Grenier and Maxime Gonalons are making
rapid progress, Fofana’s place in the starting XI is being blocked by competition.
However, the youngster is not upset by this and has said that he doesn’t regret his choice.
“It’s true that I lost playing time by deciding to sign with Lyon, but I was not going to stay all my life in Le Havre, L2. I adapted, I watched, Learned and continue to grow, especially during training. The pace is different. Lyon is the highest level,
it is one of the biggest French clubs, a club that relies on the European scene,” said the youngster while talking to L’Equipe about his choice of club.
The youngster is not worried at the moment about his lack of opportunities. Fofana said that he happy to be considered as a bit-part player for Remi Garde this campaign but said that he was going to get the best out of every opportunity that is given to
him.
Currently, Fofana’s path to first team is being blocked with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yoann-Gourcuff-c37416 with the latter still considered as a weak-link of the side.
Sure of his strength and ability, Fofana is willing to grow in stature quietly in the background before becoming an integral part of the Les Gones squad. With the winter transfer window approaching, Remi Garde would certainly not be looking to loan the youngster
and Fofana could be given ample opportunities to impress during a hectic second half of the campaign.
