France to host 2018 Ryder Cup despite pressure from Spain
France holds the most chances of becoming the next host for the 2018 Ryder Cup, despite constant pressure from friends and family of Seve Ballesteros for holding it in Spain.
With Ballesteros death, the selection committee, which has been working on the crucial issue of selecting a host for the biannual event has come under pressure. Before dying, Ballesteros bided for Madrid to be the next host and after his death, his brother
Baldomero, has started urging the committee for showing sensitivity to the last pledge of the deceased.
Ballesteros’s sons have also joined the league of getting the Ryder Cup into the capital, but they are due to get disappointed with the decision, which will be taken today.
According to insiders, the death of Seve Ballesteros was a sad moment, but it would play no role in applying pressure on the decision of the committee, as the selection was an important matter encompassing various issues. They said that the budget, the course,
the sponsors and the government backing would play a huge role in the final selection of the country.
With France fulfilling all the required criteria, it is the most preferred host for the tournament. As said by the insiders there are various reasons behind that, the course due to host the tournament, is Le Golf National, which is one of the best courses,
in the region and it is backed by the government and the private investors.
France has been in competition with Germany, Portugal, Spain, and, Netherlands, for the bid. Out of all the teams, Spain had served the Ryder Cup as the host in 1997, when Ballesteros was the captain.
The announcement regarding the host will be made on the onset of practice session of Volvo World Match Play, which will take place at Finca Cortesin in Andalusia. The practice session is being attended by the top seeds of the world namely, Lee Westwood,
and, Martin Kaymer.
