France’s Camille Lecointre and Mathilde Geron dominates on Day 1 of 2012 470 World Championships
Opening day of the 2012 470 World Sailing Championship brought an outstanding start for the French women 470 sailing teams. After some impressive sailing skills, France’s women sailing team comprising of Camille Lecointre and Mathilde Geron was able to clinch
one of the top spots with a bullet on the first day of the 2012 470 World Championship.
Due to the lighter winds on the first day of the regatta, the scheduled races started a bit late and the Race Committee decided to organize one race only. The championship featured 144 boats which were divided in two fleets, 470 Men and Women. The weather
conditions remained consistent and shifty throughout the day around six knots and the participants were able to sail in only one race.
The 470 Women fleet racing was all-French show on the race course. Besides Camille Lecointre and Mathilde Geron, another French pair consisting of Ingrid Petitjean and Nadege Douroux also delivered impressive sailing skills and following the footsteps of
their compatriots, finally managed to hit a bullet to occupy top spot in the overall standings.
Speaking to the media, Petijean said that they had a good start and led the first half of the first leg. The pair was the first to finish with the help of some decent speed. She summarised the race saying that despite slow starters, they have achieved a
pretty strong beginning in the series so they are happy to win. The team is now aiming to sail as well for the rest of the regatta.
