France’s Groupe Edmond de Rothschild wins 2011 Extreme Sailing Series Act 7 at Nice
Home favourites, Groupe Edmond de Rothschild, made a superb comeback in the 2011 Extreme Sailing Series as their hard work finally paid off and the squad clinched the seventh act of the Extreme season with 229 points. Team skipper, Pierre Pennec is quite
happy with the crew’s performance and hopes that they will do well in the future.
Weather conditions at Nice in France were quite ideal for a solid sail and the French team had an impressive run under such a forecast. During the race on the final day, Groupe Edmond de Rothschild possessed a dangerous position with Sweden’s Artemis Racing,
who was trailing them by three points, but the French team managed to escape and hit top spot.
Swedish team of Artemis Racing could have troubled the French, but they failed to unsettle the leader board and finished second in the overall score board with 228 points. Switzerland’s Alinghi occupied third position with 215.5 points after 29 races of
the event.
