France’s SC Levallois seals the 51st European Cup title held in Heidenheim – European Fencing

The 51st edition of the European Cup Men’s Epee discipline concluded on May 2, in Heidenheim, Germany. A total of sixteen fencing clubs from sixteen distinct nations had participated in the Europe-based event.
From the host country, SC Heidenheim took part in the tournament. The side ended tenth in the 2010 edition of the event.
This year, the German team included Stephan Rein, Niklas Multerer, Jonathan Willis and Maxim Danilejko. The side made it into the quarter-finals and finished at the seventh place, after a narrow miss into the semi-final, at a 37-38 score defeat from the
Polish club, AZS AWF Wroclaw.
The four teams that reached into the semi-final round included Sala de Armas Madrid from Spain, Ukraine’s Kiev Schvsm, SC Levallois from France and Polish Club, Wroclaw. The Ukrainian club battled against the Spanish side, whereas the French played against
the Polish men.
The Spanish club Madrid defeated Ukraine by taking-up the single winning point at 43-42, to surge into the final round. On the other hand, the French club entered the next round by a single-handed victory over the Polish club, with a 45-25 score.
In the final round, the Spanish club team comprising of David Espana, Jose Luis Abajo, Ignacio Canto and Elias Casado led the first four bouts out of the total nine, at 17-16. From that point onwards, the Levallois club started to gain the lead
that kept on advancing and they finally ended up victorious with a score difference at 45-34, sealing a gold victory for France.
The winner team comprised of the four fencers Alexandre Blaszyck, Ulrich Robeiri, Gauthier Grumier and Virgile Marchal. The Spanish team, Sala de Armas Madrid was left with the silver medal of the European cup.
For the third-place finish, Ukraine’s Kiev Schvsm club fought against Wroclaw of Poland, where the match concluded in favour of the Polish Men’s Epee team, who earned a bronze medal.

3rd Wroclaw (POL)
4th Kiev (UKR)
5th Oslo (NOR)
6th Praha (CZE)
7th Heidenheim (GER) and
8th Kfar-Saba (ISR)
