France’s World Cup preparations suffer another blow as Fulgence Ouedraogo ruled out – Rugby news
France’s 2011 Rugby World Cup (RWC) training was dealt a huge blow as their international flanker, Fulgence Ouedraogo, is ruled out from the game for six weeks. Fulgence Ouedraogo made the announcement in a press conference
on Thursday, June 9.
Earlier on Thursday, Fulgence Ouedraogo met with the Frances rugby union’s national team doctor Jean-Philippe Hager to discuss his hand injury in a previous game. The 24-year-old Fulgence Ouedraogo is the captain of the French
Top 14 side Montpellier and he injured his hand in their French Top 14 2010/11 season semi-final win against the Racing Metro on May 28 at Stade Velodrome, Marseille.
The Burkina Faso born Ouedraogo was not 100 percent fit when he participated in the French Top 14 final match against Toulouse on Saturday, June 4, at Stade de France, Paris. Later he confirmed that he felt the pain before
the match and took a heavy dose of painkillers so that he could participate in the game in which Vassili Bost substituted Fulgence Ouedraogo during the 67th minute of the game.
After his discussion with the Dr. Hager, Fulgence Ouedraogo confirmed that the injury will take six weeks time to recover. He further added that the injury will have minimum effect on the French team’s 2011 Rugby World Cup
preparations. He said, “It shouldn't be too much of problem because the start of the preparation for the World Cup will be focused on physical preparation without contact.”
Ouedraogo is the latest addition to Marc Lievremont's 2011 RWC squad. He has so far played 22 international matches for France.
Dr. Hager on Thursday, June 9, also confirmed that the Toulouse Hooker William Servat will undergo surgery on his left knee. He further added that Servat would take 6 to 8 weeks to recover from the injury.
As part of their 2011 RWC preparations, France will play two tests against Ireland and Lievremont. The French squad will be expecting their star players to recover from their respective injuries in time to play the crucial warm-up matches.
