Francesca Halsall wishes to qualify for 100m butterfly at World and Olympic events – Swimming News
One of Britain’s most talented female superstars, Francesca Halsall, has expressed her desire of representing her nation in the finals of the 100m butterfly at the World and Olympic level.
Halsall, who recovered from an ankle surgery a few months back, failed to dominate her events at the 2011 British Gas National Swimming Championships, this march. Halsall displayed some deteriorated swims but managed a podium finish in the 100m freestyle,
which qualified her to the 2011 Shanghai World Championships, during July.
The British swimmer will defend her 100m freestyle title at Britain’s second selection trial next month, but she will face tough competition from Jemma Lowe, who won the silver medal in the 100m butterfly at the selection trials.
Halsall is also the gold medallist for the 50m butterfly at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games. She also owns the silver medal of the 100m freestyle at the 2009 World Championships in Rome.
Halsall said, “I want to make the team for the 100m fly, that is my aim now, I have never done it at a worlds or made an Olympic final in it so if I did qualify for it I would like to be in that position just so I can do it a year in advance. So before the
Olympics I would have practiced it and I know what it is like to be in that situation and that is something that I would really like to do if possible. The ankle is absolutely fine now, and I have been doing a lot of leg weights in the gym just to make sure
it is back to full strength.”
Francesca seemed satisfied with her performance at the British trials and said that she is happy with her performance in the training session. She said that her coach, Ben Titley, has been putting a lot of efforts to help her in achieving her dreams.
The British swimmer said that she is preparing hard to excel her performance in the butterfly event and she will try to reach the podium in her favourite event at the upcoming world stage.
