Francesca Schiavone Vs Samantha Stosur Results : Schiavone wins French Open
There is a celebration in Italy as the first Italian women wins the first Grand slam. Francesca Schiavone became the first Italian woman to win a French Open Grand Slam by defeating Samantha Stosur from Australia 6-4, 7-6 (7/2) in the French Open final on Saturday.
This is totally unbelievable, Samantha was favorite to win but Schianone fought hard to make sure she makes history by not only first Italian to win the grand slam but also as 29 year old she is the the second oldest first-time Grand Slam women's champion.
Autralia has waited long 30 years and this final was looking good to break that curse when Stosur was aiming to bring the Grand slam win to Autralia.
Revenge is sweet and doing it in the French Open final is even sweeter. Stosur put Schiavone out in the first round of French Open.
Schianone played hard from the get go to make sure the 26-year-old Australian Stosur was kept on the defensive.
"I didn't prepare anything to say, because I thought that if I did then this would never happen," said Schiavone, who follows Adriano Panatta, the Italian man champion here in 1976, into the Italian record books.
"I felt amazing today. I feel like a champion.
"But I want to say to Samantha that she is a great person. You deserve to be here next time. You are young, you can still do it."
