Francesca Schiavone dismantles Bojana Jovanovski in 1st round – China Open 2011
Seventh seeded Francesca Shiavone achieved a near flawless victory as she played the main draw of the China Open 2011 against world number fifty seven, Bojana Jovanovski at the National Tennis Center, Beijing, China. Battling it
out on the outdoor hard court for just sixty seven minutes, Italian Schiavone sent Serbian Jovanovski to the packing to lockers after winning in straight sets of 6-1, 6-3.
After comparing the ranking of the two, the difference in ranking stated a clear win for the Italian and the spectators expected Schiavone to display a thrilling performance.
Starting the opening round of the match was Schiavone, who won the toss and served first winning the opening game. The seventh seeded Schiavone got off to a great start as she had an opportunity to break her opponent in the second
game. Availing the breakpoint chance, Schiavone then held serve for the third game and was leading with a 3-0.
In the following two games the Serb managed to hold serve for the first time in the fourth game and reduced the deficit to 1-3. However, in the fifth game Schiavone again went one up in the score as she won on her serve moving
the scoreboard to 4-1. The Serb proved to be no competition for the Italian as she had further increased the gap.
Serving next, the Serbian served out game six but her back hand crosscourt shot went long and she erred gifting yet another game to her adversary. Winning another game on her opponent’s serve, Schiavone extended her lead to 5-1.
Jovanovski was unable to break or reduce the deficit against her adversary in the seventh game and as Schiavone served for the opening set, she smashed a forehand ace to bag a breadstick victory.
After taking a beating in the first round, the Serbian was able to hold a couple of serves but not for long and eventually lost the second round as well. The Serbian teenager stood to serve first in the set and she was able t o
hold serve for the first game. However, Schiavone was quick to follow behind and she too held her own, climbing on the scoreboard at 1-1.
In the following two games Jovanovski reeled off straight two games by first, winning a game on her own serve and second, by capitalizing on an early break, she was leading 3-1. However, Schiavone was not going to let Jovanovski
ease away and she broke back in the following game to reduce the deficit to 2-3 and as she held serve in the sixth game, she evened the score at 3-3.
Amidst the last three games Schiavone utilized the break-serve-break method to end Jovanovski’s lead and clog the match with a 6-3 victory. Up Next for Schiavone is either wild card entrant Shuai Peng or Dominika Cibulkova.
