The Zebrette tactician receives the Golden Bench prize for masterminding his team’s fourth-place finish last season; Attilio Tesser named the best for Serie B.
Udinese boss, Francesco Guidolin, has been declared winner of the Panchina d’Oro prize for 2010-11.
The award is presented to Serie A’s best Coach of the year, and is voted by fellow managers. Guidolin has admitted that receiving the prestigious award is a huge honour for him.
The 56-year-old re-joined as the manager of the Bianconeri in 2010 after previously managing the club in the 1998-99 campaign. The fact that Udinese achieved their highest point total of their history last season stands testament
to the award winner’s extraordinary skill.
“I’m very emotional,” the Italian said as he received the Golden Bench award at Coverciano which is voted for by his fellow managers.
The Udinese boss expressed his surprise at winning the award, and said that it is a milestone to years of struggle.
“I didn’t expect this and it has been a long journey to this recognition. I thank Udinese and all of my players for this. I dedicate this prize to them and also my parents.” stated from former Palermo boss
The Zebrette continue to do well under the awarded manager, having moved to the 3rd spot in the Serie A table. Udinese have beaten PAOK and Bologna in their last two games respectively. If Udinese are able to qualify
for UEFA Champions League, it will be another milestone for the Bianconeri boss.
The manager has been in charge of a lot of Italian teams in the past, including Bologna, Parma and Atalanta. His coaching career also includes a short-stint at French club, A.S Monaco.
In the Serie B category, the award for the best manager went to Attilio Tesser, who was named manager of the year following Novara’s promotion to the top flight.
Tesser expressed his delight after the award, and is hopeful of finding a new club in the new future.
“I thank my colleagues, my staff and everyone at Novara,” stated Tesser despite his recent dismissal at the Piedmont club.
