The Udinese head-coach has made it clear that the Bianconeri will be aiming for the UEFA Champions League; and has reiterated his desire to stay with the club.
Francesco Guidolin was recently named Serie A Coach of the Year for the 2010/11 season, and the Udinese boss has expressed his desire to take the club to new heights.
After being asked on Udinese’s ambitions for the ongoing season, Guidolin opined that his side is in a great position to qualify for UEFA Champions League for the second time running. Nevertheless, he feels
pragmatism needs to be practised, and his side needs to realise that there is still a long way to go until the end of the season.
Udinese tasted great success in their latest UEFA Europa League encounter, trouncing PAOK 3-0 at the Macedonian-based club’s home ground. Guidolin exclaimed the result as Udinese’s best away performance under
his management, and believes that hard work has just started. He further commented:
“All we can do is try to pick up as many points as possible. The competition is fierce and we must fight tooth and nail to stay up there as long as possible. At the same time, we are in the last 16 of the
Europa League and must concentrate 1000 per cent on both competitions.”
The 56-year-old was later asked whether the Friulani can make a late charge for the Scudetto. In reply, the manager replied tactfully that he informs his team to stay modest, and he is confident that their hard work will pay off.
Furthermore he stated:
“Before going to Bologna I told my players to improve their away form, maintaining their humility and looking for a positive result. In my view with humility, rather than a low profile, we can maintain our calm and concentration
game after game.”
Recent reports have linked the former Parma boss with a coaching role at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan. In a move to distance himself from such reports, Guidolin added that he feels appreciated at the Udine based club. He also praised the club’s
atmosphere which has allowed him to work at his maximum potential.
