Francesco Molinari on the top at the end of day 1 – Scottish Open
One of the most awaited tournaments of the year is on its way. Players are giving their best to fight for glory. The first day of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open came to an end. The venue for the course is Castle Stuart Golf Links. The four-day
event started on the 12th of July is supposed to end on the 15th of July.
Francesco Molinari had a great end to the first day of the tournament. He started off his day with two consecutive pars, followed by four consecutive birdies, starting from the third hole. He ended his front nine with four-under par.
Molinari’s back nine were even better. He scored his first birdie on the eleventh and then carded five consecutive birdies, starting from the fourteenth.
There were no eagles, bogeys or double bogeys for Molinari during the whole day. He was able to finish the 7193 yards course with only 62 shots.
With the four birdies on the front nine and six birdies on the back nine, his score for the day became ten-under par.
With this magnificent performance Molinari managed to occupy the number one spot on the leaderboard. The Italian professional golfer finished his day two strokes clear from the Spaniard Alejandro Canizares. He ended his day with eight-under par, as he carded
nine birdies and a bogey.
Denmark’s Søren Kjeldsen and French player Raphael Jacquelin ended their day with seven-under par, three strokes away from the leader. They finished tied at the third position.
The great performance of the world’s number 28 has given him quite an edge in the tournament. He has a good lead and just needs to maintain it to win the title of the Scottish Open.
In an interview after the end of day one, Molinari talked about his recent purple patch, he said, "I know it's not going to last forever but I hope to keep this going a little bit longer - obviously next week [at The Open], but the next month or so is really
big for Ryder Cup [qualification]”.
"That, probably more than The Open, is in my mind”.
