I am currently in school and am interested in perusing a career as a franchisee. Will there still be the same amount of opportunity to grow? Will many of the lucrative franchises already be sold?

I am considering hotels, but I am not positive which of the thousands I am going to do...

I am in Dallas, TX

  1. There will always be opportunities for franchises, as there are always new ones coming up.  Hotels might be a tough place to start.  Building a new hotel, or buying and refurbishing an old one can be an expensive proposition, potentially costing millions of dollars.  Some companies will lend you some of the money to start your franchise, but many will require a large cash investment on your part, as they want you to have some skin in the game, to get you to work your hardest to make the business successful.  Plus, for hotels anyway, many places already have them, and competition can be pretty fierce.  Not to say its impossible to start a now hotel and make a good profit from it, far from it, its certainly possible, but you will want to do your research and know what you are doing before you sink everything you own into it, and sign your life away for a huge loan.
