The 52-year-old is expecting a tough test from the English Premier League side as Bordeaux prepare to take on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew’s men at Stade Chaban Delmas on Thursday in the Europa League
The Frenchman is eying maximum points at home and has urged his players to play without fear against Newcastle United.
While talking to reporters, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Francis-c13946 Gillot stated that their Thursday’s opponents are a really good side and their recent poor form counts for nothing. They have a number of injury issues at the moment and that has affected their domestic form.
However, the former Sochaux coach is not taking the Toon lightly and is expecting a stern test from the visitors.
“I am not surprised at how Newcastle have done in the league because of their injury problems. It is a problem, especially if you have four or five players always injured.”
Gillot added that Alan Pardew has done wonders at St James’ Park and it is sad that they have been struggling this season. Injuries are like a nightmare for any club especially if their top players are out on the sidelines, and the Bordeaux coach is not
surprised by Newcastle United’s slump in form.
“It is not easy for a coach to establish a team. It can happen, even to the better teams. I am not that surprised.”
On a question regarding Thursday’s Europa League tie, Gillot said that he doesn’t have a clue what will be the starting eleven of their opponents. The boss said that he has watched some DVDs of Newcastle United’s previous games in the Premier League and
added that he will finalise his team before the match.
“I do not have a clue (what team Newcastle will play). I have watched DVDs of previous games but I will have to see the squad before making my choice.”
The 52-year-old tactician said that although Bordeaux have qualified, he won’t take many chances. But there are several players who need to be rested and the coach will field a different team than the one which played in the Ligue 1 at the weekend.
“I am happy the team has already qualified but I have to make changes.”
