The Bordeaux coach feels that Les Girondins are in a better position as compared to other teams in the group but is not getting carried away, and is expecting a stern test from Newcastle United on Thursday
The 2008/2009 champions of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Francis-c13946 Gillot, wants to win at home to get back to winning ways.
Les Girondins haven’t won either of their last two games in the Ligue 1 and the boss is eying maximum points on Thursday when his side play host to the English Premier League outfit at Stade Chaban Delmas.
While talking to reporters, the Bordeaux coach stated that his side has performed well against Newcastle in the past while FCGB’s worst defeat this season was against Bastia in the championship.
Les Girondins lost 3-0 to Newcastle United in their previous meeting but the coach feels that his side’s 3-1 defeat at the hands of SC Bastia in the Ligue 1 was more painful, where they were undone by some harsh decisions by the referee.
“I think we played a good game against Newcastle, our worst defeat was in the championship against Bastia. The defeat was quite heavy, but the third goal was offside and we gifted them the second goal.”
Talking about Bordeaux’s chances in the Europa League this season, Gillot said the group is very difficult and every team has struggled at some stage, but they all are quality sides and anything can happen.
“It is very difficult for all the teams in the group. Maritimo have struggled, and Newcastle, as well, though they won against Wigan two days ago.”
The 52-year-old tactician added that the Europa League has affected Bordeaux’s form in the Ligue 1 but feels that his side’s situation isn’t that bad and Les Girondins can cope with playing in two competitions simultaneously.
“I said we would lose points because of the Europa League at the start of the season, and we are not helped by TV but I do not consider our situation as being too bad."
