Francisco Liriano gets hit hard as Minnesota Twins lose to Toronto Blue Jays – MLB Spring Training
Francisco Liriano looked completely out of sorts on March 13 as he was hammered by the hitters in a Grapefruit League encounter between Minnesota Twins and Toronto Blue Jays. Franky made a poor start and he struggled to find his line right until the game
ended. The left handed starter looked very disappointed with the outcome of the game. In a post game interview, Liriano admitted the fact he paid the ultimate price for making too many unforced errors.
Losing control over his throwing, he gave up four runs in third inning to let the Blue Jays take complete control of the game. Liriano had a poor season last year as he managed to earn a 9-10 win-loss record with a poor 5.08 ERA. The fans were hoping him
to bounce back strongly but they will be disappointed with what the witnessed on Tuesday.
"Franky just got some balls up and got whacked," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "He got some pitches up."
"I tried to go too hard, and made a couple of mistakes," Liriano said. "My fastball was working pretty good, and my slider was working pretty good, and like I said, I made a couple of mistakes, doing too much and rushing."
"He just told me to step back and calm down and relax, try to hit your spot and try not to overthrow," Liriano added. "Can't get mad at myself like that, so he was trying to calm me down."
The Twins’ pitcher made a decent start to his 2012 Spring Training sessions campaign. Striking out seven and giving up one runs or hits, he looked in terrific form in his first two spring appearances. Liriano posted his career best stats in 2006 with 12
wins and 2.16 ERA. It will be exciting to see if he can turn things around this season.
For Toronto, Brett Cecil allowed only one hit in three scoreless innings and he struck out two and walked two. Cecil, who slumped to 4-11 last season, will be hoping to change the course of his career in 2012.
